Girls Road Trip on Saturday

It’s been a busy weekend so I thought I’d better catch up on what I’ve been doing around here these last couple of days.

It was my friends birthday on Saturday and it was a great day to just go driving around and seeing where we ended up. The first stop was someplace that I’ve been talking about going to for some time now, and we decided to head there and check it out. I was with 3 other girls who all have been to this country store before, but because I think I’ve whined so much about going – off we went. The store we went to was the Country Store in Sattre, Iowa. It was started in the 1870’s and the log cabin building still is in operation today. It’s the last surviving country store that’s in operation in the county. How cool is that! My one friend who was with us said that her mom grew up in the area and she would talk about going to the store to pick up things that they needed for cooking. I think the outside probably looks pretty much how it did in the old days, but the inside has changed some. Not necessarily the structure, but what is all in there. You can still pick up groceries, but they also sell just about anything else. I ended up buying a shirt that shows the store, and now I’m anxious to wear it. After checking the store out, it was time to head to our next destination. We took some crazy roads to get there and I even questioned if they were roads at all. To me they looked like field lanes. But to our next stop we took other roads back and they were a little bit more traveled. I would love to take Daryl to this store sometime and travel on those really back roads, but I have absolutely no idea on which ones to take without getting lost. Hummmm… maybe I should take him sometime 🙂

Now we were getting hungry so we went to a Japanese Restaurant in a nearby town and did we have fun. When they found out that is was our friends birthday, and after a couple of ‘special’ drinks, she became the cook. The pictures that I took look like she was burning our food, but it all tasted really good. I think she’s going to really laugh when she sees her pictures.

They don't seem too worried

Photo op with the Birthday Girl!

After doing some shopping and then we headed downtown for awhile. It was her birthday after all! When it was time to end the day, we all decide that we sure had a lot of fun.

I saw a Praying Mantis when we were shopping and took a picture. I’ve never seen one before, so I was pretty fascinated by it. There was a family that came up when I was looking at it and the one daughter needed it for her school project. She just bought a bug catcher and was going to see what she could find this week. So good luck was on her side and I put it in her container. But then I saw her mom a little later and they were buying a bigger plastic bowl with a lid. The bug was too big for the first container and they needed something bigger. I hope it lives awhile for them. I read up on them a little and they say that if you keep them that they will eat the food out of your hands. Cool!
