The Sister’s Weekend

We’ve been planning for some time now to try to get to my sister’s camping site down at Lake Rathbun. Since my sister’s and I didn’t have the time we all wanted to just hang out at my nieces wedding in July, it seemed like this summer was the time to plan going to their camper. After we looked at a lot of different weekends, we couldn’t really come up with any that we could go down and stay for a Saturday/Sunday, so we decided to go down on a Sunday and stay for a couple of days during the beginning of the week. It worked out great! We left on Sunday morning and after we completely filled the car with our stuff, off to our adventure we went. We made it an hour away and decided to pick up some things that we knew that we were going to get at a grocery store. My sister called who owns the camper while we were shopping and asked if we were almost there yet? Seriously? We were still about 3 hours away! But we did get there in good time and then it was time to unpack the car. If we thought we had the car full when we left my house – it was really full now! A tour around the lake and all the area gave us a good idea on how big this lake really was.The lake has 11,000 acres of water and 21,000 acres of public land on it. It was huge.

After supper we hung out at the camper and had fun telling stories. Of course, it also included a couple of calls to family members to ask questions on some of the stories -but everyone was a good sport when we called them. Now the next challenge – getting some sleep. Finally after some really gross conversations – everyone agreed to just be quiet and we think we did get ‘some’ sleep. The next day on the water was absolutely perfect. We tried to do knee board and skiing, but no one but my one sister who we were visiting had good luck actually accomplishing it. She made it look soooo easy, but for me -NOT so easy!

Taking a break

OK, taking another break....

We laughed so hard when we were using their two water rafts behind the boat. My brother-in-law would have us just flying and then get us to come so close to each other. We were told that we were supposed to defend our raft from the other one, but to be honest we were laughing so hard that all we could do was to try to not fall off! After we ate again (we ate a lot!) onto a friendly game of video games and cards. I think there’s a reason why I never played video games with our kids – I am terrible! It was a late night, but we really needed to get to bed. We did sleep good that night because of all the time we spent in the water that afternoon and we even woke up pretty early the next morning. After we ate (yea.. ) we headed into a town nearby to do a little shopping. In the town that we went to there are some really cool old mansions that they turned into shops and again, we filled the car with all our new treasures. By this time it was getting into the early afternoon and my sister’s husband had our dinner ready for us when we got back. He helped us all weekend with the boat and the meals, and we decided that he definitely was a keeper! After a couple of days of playing lawn games, sitting around camp fires, boating, shopping, playing other games, hanging out in the water, and of course eating… it was time to go home. We decided that this was something that we need to do more often. And even though it was only a couple of days, it seems like we’re still laughing at some of the stupid stuff that we did, and we probably will be laughing for some time!
