Even if it’s hot outside –

Even if it’s hot outside, we are still having a good time. Well almost everyone. Kyle’s cat, Thor has to go outside once in awhile and I’m thinking that he likes to sleep in the air conditioned room instead. We put him outside when Kyle’s not around and he just sits by the window and watches us until we let him back in. I mean you can only take so much of this cat watching you. Since he’s going back to Canada with Kyle, back to the vet I took him today to get more shots and more paperwork. While I was there the Vet asked me if I wanted to join their antique farm club. For some reason I think that this is kind of cool that he asked me. He said that they are always looking for new members and especially if they would drive the tractors. Humm… I told him that he was out of luck on that part, but I could cook for them if they wanted. He smiled and kind of laughed. I’m thinking they’re not looking for a cook. But one of their projects that they are working on is to take down a silo and then rebuild it. Now I would like to see and possibly help with that. Maybe I will look into their club a little bit more. But as far as the cat,  I told the kids that I know more about this cats shots than I ever did about either one of our kids shots. But I guess it’d be bad if the cat had to stay on one side of the border and Kyle was on the other. That would probably be a terrible day for everyone! Especially Thor.

I think she wants to get back inside

Because it’s so hot outside, I took all the hanging baskets and put them inside the wood shed. It’s cool in there and they can stay watered a ton easier than trying to survive in this 95+ temperature that we’re supposed to be having the next couple of days. I’ve done this in the past and it works pretty good. The only thing is that when you put them outside for the first time, they kind of go into shock. But it’s better than killing them this early in the season.

I put the flowers inside for a couple of days

Kyle and Mariel went to Spook Cave. This has always been a favorite of our kids, and how could it not be of everyone’s? If you haven’t been there, you should make the trip. After that, they headed to town to play some darts.’ And for William? He spent the afternoon on the water. Both the boys had a good time today, even with the terrible heat.

Fun at Spook Cave!

I picked a wildflower that Kyle and Allison planted last month. I think it looks kind of crazy and I haven’t seen anything like it before. It was in a mixture of wild flowers that we started from seeds. Kind of cool and I’m hoping to get some seeds from it and plant more of them next year.

Not sure if it's supposed to be a snake or a cat tail?

I found out something about myself these past couple of weeks. I found out that I like to garden. After all these years, you would have thought that this shouldn’t be something that I only find out now, would you? But I think I’ve actually taken the time lately to enjoy it and I really find it relaxing. My brother stopped in today to pick up some raspberry plants that I’ve taken out for him to start a new patch at his house, and I made him come look at it. He said that I have to pull all the tomato leaves inside the tomato cage if I want them to grow taller. Now I’ve seen his tomato plants, and they have always been huge! So tonight before I watered them, I pulled all the leaves inside the cages. I’ve washed my hands about 3 or 4 times since, but man I still can smell tomatoes.

5 gallon pail of raspberry plants

The garden continues to grow. I'm so impressed!

Tomatoes are just starting

We played a friendly game of cards with Mariel last night before bed. Since she said that she didn’t really know how to play Euchre, we thought she should learn while she was in Iowa. Well, I think she is one of those card sharks because she was getting all the good cards. Either that or she has beginners luck! So it was a close game and we’ll have to try to get in one more game before they head back North. Now that we know that she really does know how to play.

Good way to end the night
