We waited up until the last minute to decide if we were going to go kayaking on the Upper Iowa River or not. But the weather so windy again (45 mph gusts) and they were predicting a storm to blow through around 3:00, so we thought we’d do it another day. It’s too bad because I really wanted to go! I moved all the plants inside to shelter again, and I sure wish I wouldn’t have to! Take a look at how my one plant looked after the table blew over yesterday and landed on top of the flower!
But it turned out for the best because around 4:00 a storm did blow through and it would not have been good if we were on the river after all. So I spent the day just catching up. I don’t know if you do this when you’re expecting company, but ‘things’ that don’t need to be around are put in spots that are out of the way. Now the real challenge comes later when you’re trying to find those things again. I think I’ve got everything pretty much organized, as well as I was hoping to anyway. I also had a chance to catch up on some graduation cards that I needed to make. It was fun to be able to work on them at a more normal speed, other than trying to get them glued while Daryl is sitting in the car waiting for me!
William didn’t go picking rock because he thought we were going on the river, so he had a free day. He cleaned his room (Thank Goodness!) and also started to take off his pictures off the graduation party boards. This isn’t a bad job, but just a time consuming job.
Now I know by now that you’ve heard me saying that it’s been really windy, and usually the dogs hate the wind. But today they found a very much benefit to it. They hate birds, so when the birds are flying around the farm, they jump up and always try to catch them. They look really pretty stupid if you ask me. They hardly ever .. or ever catch them. They even try to catch flocks of geese when they are flying over. They case them through the fields. So now that it’s windy outside, the smaller birds are falling out of the trees. At first, the dogs thought it was a mistake or something. But now, I think they are looking at this as a gift from the heavens. They are not nice at all to the birds, and when they are done playing with them, the birds are usually kind of dead. But until they get to that point, the dogs are having a really good time!
When Kyle and Alli got home from Decorah, they all spent some time playing the Wii. I’m so glad that we have that back room so the kids can go in it and just hang out. When we remodeled we thought that we would use it more than we had before. But I don’t think we could have ever imagined how much we really use it. It really works well!
We did get some rain tonight, maybe a quarter to a half an inch. We can really use the rain, not only for the land but also to just clean the air. And for Daryl and I? Well, we’re just heading out with William for supper in town. Not sure where we’re going, but it’ll be fun just to go somewhere.
