We had a very successful day today. The morning started out that our cement contractor said that he’ll be over in the afternoon. So that means we needed some rock or sand for him to put in the new cement. When the rock was ordered, I took the old lawnmower to town to see what kind of a deal that we could get on a trade in on a newer one. Well, I got the same story that you always get… the deck is bad on our lawnmower and it has a lot of hours on it. But when the one guy that I was talking to wasn’t looking, someone from the shop told me that there’s a used lawnmower deck in the back that should fit on ours. OK, now we’re talking. So when my sales guy was saying how hard it’ll be to fix ours up, I asked him about the ones in the back that parts might be able to be used on ours. He didn’t think that they had any back there, and after a couple of times talking about it, I finally convinced him that we should look. So back to the used storage area we went. He said that it might be in the bushes and hard to get to. OK. And for some reason he walked right to it. Weird huh. And wouldn’t you know it? There was one back there. So now this changes everything. With this new information, and how they could just replace our deck with this one and sell it to someone as a good used machine – I was able to get our price up more to where we wanted it. I did end up buying one for our farm and into the pickup it went. I’m getting kind of used to driving around the pickup with ‘stuff’ in the back end of it. I used to think that I liked our SUV for hauling around things – but I’m kind of digging this pickup bed!
So when I got home, I worked on finishing up the graduation invitations, and have most of them done. Tomorrow I’m going to get them in the mail and then finish the last ones in the next couple of days. I sure hope that we remember everyone that we would like to have for the party. I also spent some time upgrading some software that was needed for this Blog. Every time that I do something like this, it sure makes me realize that I sure don’t know anything about computers. I was able to get some things done with the computer that I’ve put off.. and the upgrades worked. That’s good. The one computer guy said that it should work and if it didn’t, we can always reverse the upgrade. Not that I thought that he was lying, because I’m sure he wasn’t. But it’s always scary when an IT person says to you that ‘if it doesn’t work’
In the afternoon the rock guy came and put a load of new rock in our yard, just waiting for the cement guy to come. When I went back to get Daryl from work (we’re still all sharing cars yet), the contractor still wasn’t at our farm. But when we got back home, he did show up and all the cement was removed from the front of the Roadhouse and put back by the cows for now. When we pulled into the driveway, we noticed that the cows were just running around kinda crazy like. And what the contractor told us was that they were fine until they saw us. Too funny! The contractor was able to get a trough put in to keep the cow yard water away from the front of the Roadhouse done today. And we also have the layout for the new patio figured out. Hopefully on Wednesday they can get most (or all) of it done.
While work was being done on the cement by the contractors, we worked on the trees in the grove. Now that our smaller grove is getting taller, we can take down some of the lower branches of the old trees. It sure made it look a lot cleaner and it’ll be easier to mow. We have a burn pile of old wood that will need to get burnt one of these days, and the larger branches went up there. This pile is where the cows are for their pasture and for some reason they were eating the branches like it was some really good hay. Weird cows!
William had to go to a meeting, and when he got home we ended by grilling some brats for supper and calling it a night. The little kitty laid by the fireplace with William, and everyone fell asleep watching TV. As for tomorrow? I sure hope we can get as much accomplished as today – or as Daryl told me yesterday, that I was sure ‘hauling the mail’. When I looked at him to make sure that he was OK. He said it meant to get a lot of stuff done. Huh, never heard that saying before, but it sure fit for yesterday!
