First lets talk about snakes. I hate them. I know that ‘hate’ is a very strong word, but it’s appropriate when I’m talking about snakes. So this afternoon I’m mowing lawn and find a SNAKE in our backyard by the fire barrel. OK, why is there a snake in our back yard? But I did have an advantage, I was on the riding lawn mower.
But I have had run in’s with snakes in the past and the last time I was on a lawn mower with a snake, it didn’t turn out so well. What happened a couple of years ago, was that I was out mowing lawn and minding my own business, when I saw a snake. I almost freaked out! But then I thought that I am really going to get this snake and kill him. So I backed the lawn mower up very carefully and went full speed ahead with a smile on my face! Now this was a good plan, but what I didn’t take into consideration was that I was right by a building and when I hit the snake with the mower – the snake hit the building, and ricocheted back and then it splattered all over me! I thought to myself…. just keep breathing just keep breathing… I didn’t know if you could have a heart attack just by being in a bad situation, but I got off the lawn mower, took a shower, and was done for that day.
So today I was much smarter. I waited until this snake was on the other side of the fire barrel and then I mowed over him. No more splatter stuff for me! When I checked him out, I almost threw up. But it was one of those situations that if you see something bad, you hate to look at it, but you find yourself going back to check it out again. The next round of mowing I knew that he was more than dead and for a very small part of a second, I did feel bad for him. But it was only for less than a second. I’m just hoping that this is the end of the snakes that I see this year. One is enough for me!!
Daryl and William worked on putting together the tractor that Daryl has been painting. It’s looking pretty good, and he just has a couple of more things to do and then it’s done. Good timing though. He hooked up his new planter to get it all adjusted and he’s getting anxious to get out in the field. The weather has been chilly lately, and it’ll have to warm up some before he starts planting. This morning the dog water dish had ice in it.
While Kyle was picking rocks, William tilled the garden and some flower spots for me today. Even though it was really windy, it wasn’t too bad of a job to get done. We rented the tiller from the Hardware Store. The hardware store that I always go to has equipment rental also, and I’m telling you they are truly a one stop shop!
So after everything was tilled, I started to watch Reno walking around the yard. She took this one bone that she hates sharing with the male dog and went walking around. She took it behind the Roadhouse and then behind the barn. Finally she came back and stopped by a new flower bed that I’m putting in and was freshly tilled up. She decided that it looked like a good spot and she buried it in the new fresh dirt. The cows came up behind her was she was trying to cover it up and really scared her. I think she was keeping an eye out for Apollo, and she wasn’t thinking that the cows were just on the other side of the fence. I grabbed my camera while all of this was going on, but was too late. I did get one though with her standing by it looking kind of smug.
