Winter came

It’s hard to believe that just a couple of days ago I went to town in my summer sandals and no socks. Now I think winter has come to Iowa! I guess we were due though. We had such a nice warm beginning of the winter season and it sure made it easy to get around not only for the Holiday travels, but to also the school activities. I just paid our heating bill this morning and I remember that years December heating bill was literally twice as much. With the weather a lot colder, I tried a couple of times getting the dogs to come out of the barn yesterday. Apollo would come out but Reno would just come half way to the door and then make this bizarre clicking noise. When I would go up to her, she would just shake and be so scared. I couldn’t figure it out because they saw snow last year and she should have remembered it. But after putting on my boots for the last time yesterday and heading out – I figured that maybe they ‘should’ stay in the barn and made sure that they had fresh water to drink. When Daryl came home he opened the door and out they came. I think they must have thought that I’d stay in there and pet them. OK, it did work about three times that I got dressed an tried – but then I caught on to the scam!

brrrrr

I was talking to someone a couple of weeks ago and she said that they had a tractor fire and thought that a mouse got into the wiring and it started it. She said that she heard that if you put dryer fabric sheets around where you wanted to keep mice out, that they will stay out. So I bought a box of dryer sheets and out to the combine I went. I don’t know if there is a mouse in it or not, but we sure don’t want to get one while it’s stored for the winter. If it doesn’t work? Well Daryl’s cab on the combine will be smelling really good next fall.

I put four sheets inside the cab and it is Smellin' Good!

Today a load of sand was delivered for the Roadhouse gutters. We need to get the drain put in and then fill the rest with sand. We wanted the electricians to come first, but that’s not going to happen. I’ve called them a couple of times these last few weeks and with no luck. So the contractor is coming next week to start to bust out some cement and then cement the gutters and the front part. He’s also going to move the water line and it’ll go under the window. We got a quote from him to see about putting down all colored cement over the top of everything. Wow! He even said it was way too expensive, so we’ll have to see after everything is done what we’ll do to finish it off. But for now I’m just excited to see how it’s going to look with the gutters filled in. We’ve got a basketball game tonight, and then a Jazz contest tomorrow, followed by card club at our friends house. So it looks like it’s going to be our Sunday project.

Looks like we're shoveling sand this weekend!
