Getting closer….

I posted an update yesterday that our carpenter came and put in two of the windows on the Roadhouse Friday. Now it might not look so different to anyone else – OK, that’s a lie. If you don’t see a difference there is really something wrong! It’s a good thing that we live out in the country because both Daryl and I just kind of walk around the outside and then we go inside and look out the windows. You know, just to check it out. It definitely feels different inside now with the windows in. I’m not sure on how to explain the difference other than it feels more open and not so closed up.  The carpenter is coming back next week Monday to finish the inside where he put the windows in and to install the last window on the west side. Daryl and I talked about how it looks so different and what his dad would say if he was still around. He said his dad would just shake his head and probably wonder what is going to happen next. It’s not that his dad wouldn’t like it, it’s just that it would be hard to imagine instead of talking about which sows will be having pigs soon to now talking about what the wall color should be. Come to think of it I’ve see the head shaking thing before with Daryl. That’s how he reacted when I hung up the the wall decorations on the ‘outside’ of the old milk house.

We are still waiting for the bid to come back for the cement for the inside floor. We talked about a couple of different options with a contractor and was anxious to see if they would fit in our budget. The one thing that we are planning on doing for sure is to have next spring some stenciled cement put in where the fire pit is on the south side. We were first thinking that we were going to lay patio blocks but now we are thinking that we’ll have the contractor who did our porch on our house also do a patio on the Roadhouse to match. We thought that this would be an easy project to do, but he was talking about digging out dirt in front for a natural waterway and leveling off some other stuff. To be honest I just wanted him to say that he would do the patio and didn’t really care too much about the other things. He said he’d fit us in next spring so that was good. Maybe because when we were talking about it I was looking at him with my mouth open when he said he was booked until next June. I kind of panicked and said that I really … really wanted to have him do it next April or beginning of May because there was no one else that could do such a good job like him and that I really… really wanted it done by the second week of May. I’m thinking he said he’d do it so that I’d quit saying ‘really’. Oh well, whatever works!

But the next step now is to get the electricians in so we can have lights and outlets installed. We plan on putting in a lot of outlets so if we want to plug in roasters or crock pots we won’t be tripping any breakers. We’ve blown fuses way to many times in our house before we remodeled and it’s now something that I always want to have if I can. I’m really anxious to see what it’ll all look like when we’re done. The weather for the weekend is supposed to be nice and I’m hoping to get the door painted if possible. We should be able to take it off and move it inside and I’ve got the paint rollers bought for it. I had no idea that they made paint door rollers before – but I figured that I could use it on the Roadhouse and eventually use it on the house front door. We’re painting the Roadhouse door white but no agreement on the house door yet. 🙂

OK – here is the south side of the farrowing house before and after pictures. (remember we still have to add the patio and some outside lights)

Old hog barn cement gone and grass planted

The walls primed and ready to be painted
