Work continues on the Roadhouse

It’s official – we started to paint inside of the farrowing house today. We knew that it was going to be cold and chilly inside the shed and possibly too cold for us to put the primer on. We talked about putting some tarp up on the open door but Daryl found some plywood and that did really work pretty well. Once we knew for sure that it was going to work today, I asked my brothers if they had some better lights that we could use and they said that they did. So while Daryl was doing some last minute cleanup inside the shed, I took the pickup and headed to their place to pick the lights up. When we plugged them in we knew that they were really going to work well and were greatful that we were able to borrow them for this project. Next step was to get some heat inside. In comes the nipco heater and it started to get nice and toasty inside. Once the spray painting started, we didn’t want to stop because the primer will get all weird and clumpy. That means that it won’t spray very well. We did get half of the shed ceiling primed and took a late dinner break. William had some dinner warmed up for us so we wouldn’t have to stop too long and in no time we were back at painting. The sprayer was working well and when we got the ceiling done we decided to start to work on the sides. We did ran out of primer (we sprayed 11 gallons today) but I’m planning on getting more tomorrow to finish up priming the sides. Our plan is then when Daryl gets home from work we’ll paint the ceiling with white paint. I’m hoping that everything will go well with the sprayer and the nipco heater. We had some trouble with the nipco today, but Daryl went into town to get some #1 diesel fuel for it. I guess there are two different ‘numbers’ of diesel fuel and #1 fuel is more refined and will burn hotter. We’re hoping that this will fix when the heater kind of backfires and smokes.

Boarding up the door to keep it warm inside

All set up and ready to get started

I’m attaching a picture that Kyle took of a typical building where he lives. When you look at the picture you’ll see a lot of different signs on the building. Each sign is a different store or business in that building. In Kyle’s building, he lives on the fourth floor and beside him is a beauty shop, a hospital is on the floor above him, there’s also a small mini mart, lingerie store, and tons of other stores or apartments in his building. When we send Kyle a package we always send it to where he goes to school because if we sent it to his building, the mail is brought into the entryway and just set there. If it’s yours, then you take it. But the bad thing is that his buildings entryway is open to anyone on the street and so is the opportunity for anyone to take it. When we send it to his school, it’s a much more controlled area and no one can take the box. We’re getting ready to send a package soon. The one thing (and honestly the only thing) that he wants for Christmas is some new shoes. I need to get them ordered tomorrow so I can get them and then ship them out to him before Christmas.
