Hay drying weather

Daryl raking hay

Daryl cut our hay on Saturday morning quick before we left for a wedding. He didn’t hear the forecast and was worried that it might rain. But then he said that he always remembers what his dad told him. If you don’t cut the hay – it won’t have a chance to dry. So he cut the hay and it never got rained on, which is a good thing. We don’t have much hay ground. We have around 2  1/2 acres – and for us,  that’s enough to keep our cattle happy in the winter when the hay tastes probably the best to them. We got 5 bales off this small plot today and as a total they weighed around 3 tons. We’ll cut the hay at least 4 times this year and hope to make some small bales with one of the cuttings. Daryl was only planning on raking the hay tonight but since it was around 97 degrees today,  it was more than dry. He called our neighbor to bale it and tonight it’s in the shed. Good thing done.
