Fun Weekend

What a great weekend! I went with my two sisters to work on the Extreme Makeover house in West Union on Saturday night and what a great opportunity. We were nervous that when our shift was going to happen that the house would be done so we went to the site about an 1 1/2 hours early. When we went to sign in to start working they told us that the house was done but there should be something for us to do. We got to the site around 6:30 pm, it was absolutely perfect timing. The first semi was just backing up with the furniture. OK, how cool!! So we worried about being sent home and now we get to help decorate the house? WOW!

Since we were early, we thought it would be a great time to scope out the inside of the house. We didn’t know if we would get to go inside,  so off to the front door we went. Well we got into the front entryway and all of a sudden we heard someone say, ‘We need 3 blue shirt people to help’ The reason for the blue shirt comment was because all the helpers had to be wearing blue shirts. OK, so we jumped in and what they were doing was filming a commercial for CVS stores. What our job was to walk around in the living room and just keep walking for the background of the commercial. So we started walking, walking, walking, and the funniest thing is that when the film crew moved into the hallway – you guessed it, we just kept walking in our little circles in the living room and they were gone. We died laughing because someone finally said  ‘OK we can stop walking now’.  Almost peed in our pants laughing. So now we headed out to the truck to help unload. We made a long row of people to hand off the furniture to each other and again, good luck was on our side because we ended up being in the house helping organize the boxes.  At one point the person from the crew in the house said to everyone “Everyone listen up, Judy is the boss” and sent her downstairs to keep everything moving and organized. Since our shift was the 8 pm to 2 am and we really started at 6:30 pm we were STARVING after a couple of hours. I think all three of us were too excited to eat before we went. So off we went to see if we could find some food. We ended up finding some awesome cupcakes (we all ate two of these) and lasagna with sides. Wonderful! So back to the house we went after our bellies were full and ended up the night helping organize closets and different parts of the house. It was probably a once in a lifetime experience and I’m really happy that I was able to do it. We were planning on leaving at 2 am but they needed a little bit help, so at around 2:30 am we got back on our bus and was heading back to town. Since we were standing and carrying things up and down the steps all night, Judy had the hot tub ready for us when we got back to her place. So into the hot tub we went and after tons of laughing, drinking wine and talking about everything from the night, finally we made it to bed around 4 am. Judy’s hot tub is outside and I’m thinking that maybe the neighbors were also glad that we went to bed!

The next morning came fast and we were all sitting in the kitchen talking about what time we should go back to the reveal. We all agreed that it didn’t matter if we were close at all and we just wanted to experience the whole thing. We did go early and when we got there we found a spot that there was hardly any one at. My nephew and his family was also with us, and because they had their 3 little children we thought that this would be a good spot. Someone from the crew kept coming by us and reminding us that we’ll have the carpenters in front of us and that we’ll have to move back. We had heard that earlier and thought if we got pushed back, then we would just step back. No big deal. Then someone weird happened. The crew came up to our section and said we needed to move the fence up closer to where they were going to film. OK. Then they came back the second time and said it again. So by this time we found out that there was no one going to be standing in front of us and we were really excited that we were going to be right behind everything! Remember earlier when we said that we didn’t care if we were in the back? This changed everything. So we kept trying to keep our spot and by the end of the day we were in the first three rows of the area. My nephews oldest son who is around 6 really loves Ty. So my sister made the cutest poster for him to hold up and I couldn’t even guess how many times he was photographed and filmed. I am so anxious to see if he makes the TV show. I just couldn’t believe that he wouldn’t be on it.

So after we did a couple of movie takes on a fake limo coming into the driveway, the actual limo did drive in. When I’m thinking about it now it ‘s just kind of a blur. It didn’t seem real at the time and I wonder what the family was feeling. Since we had these great spots in the crowd we could hear everything that was being talked about when they were talking to the family. Then it was time to yell ‘Move that bus’! Once the crowd started yelling you could hear and echo going through the corn fields. We were wondering if the people in town a couple of miles away could even hear it? It was completely deafening and we weren’t even in the real thick crowd. Unbelievable. So we watched them take the family to the house and then after a long weekend went back to Judy’s.

We talked a lot this weekend on how luck was on our side. We were so worried that we would get sent home from the house because there wasn’t anything to do and we ended up helping organize the families closets and put away furniture. And we weren’t even planning on getting close for when they reveled the house to the family and we ended up right behind them and you might just see us on TV!

Our snack during the night. Yum!

Very cool! You guys sure had a way of getting the best seats EVER!
I think it’s because you think like…well…we ‘ll just move, if they ask us to. And they
never ask you to!! That’s great. You had great spots at that ball game too!
Maybe kind of like when you guys had front row seats at the lumber jack contest?!
