It was a very weird morning. The weather was so heavy last night, it felt like there was a storm brewing and that’s just what happened. Now I have no idea what time it first started, but it was lightning so much that it looked like the fake lightning in the movie Frankenstein. Of course I’m such a light sleeper, that this kind of weather really doesn’t help me with my beauty sleep at all. So I was still awake when Daryl came home which must have been after 1 am and somewhere around 4 ? the show started. So downstairs I went to see if it was really that windy or not. When I opened up the french doors in our living room I was surprised by Pepper the little kitty and Reno our dog rushing by me. Now I didn’t mind Pepper being out, but I just couldn’t see how Reno got out of the barn. What we figured out later was because she absolutely hates storms, she got the milk house door opened and ran to the house. So when I opened the door, a huge thunder went off and everyone now was in the house. It was such a storm that on some of the thunder, the pictures just vibrated on the walls. I felt bad for Reno, but the little kitty was very very naughty and was jumping over the dog and also me while I was laying on the couch. My thought was that she was little and it would be hard for her to get struck by lightning with her being so close to the ground. Yup, out she went. Now she didn’t like this at all and pasted herself up against the window. She was OK, she just needs to be a little nicer before she was coming back in. Daryl checked the corn tonight to make sure that it wasn’t blown over and found out that it was tilted a little, but there wasn’t any damage. That’s good.
So finally after everything calmed down, I went upstairs and crawled back into bed only to hear the alarm go off. OK, but we didn’t want to leave to take all of William’s stuff down to college in the rain. Now granted the clothes and electronic stuff was in the car, but there was still some things in the truck. So we waited and left an hour later and by then it was only sprinkling. A quick stop at the court house to get his passport renewed (I know, we had all summer to get this done right?) and then off to Ames we went. I followed William in the truck and I thought to myself that it’s such a funny feeling to have your kids grow up.
We made good time on the Interstate, and once we got to Iowa State, we even found a couple of good parking spots to start unloading and bringing his stuff to his room. The first thing was to get the loft built. Well, I had to smile to myself because some of his Engineer friends came to see the loft that they designed, and soon there was 6 of his friends in his room checking it out. In the mean time Kyle had also called and wished William good luck and he was also getting things ready so he could move into his apartment in New York soon.
There is such a difference how the boys are when they pack. William has just about everything you can imagine in his room and I was glad that it is an ever bigger dorm room than last year to store all his stuff. Now Kyle is traveling with one suitcase and a backpack and that’ll get him buy for the next four months.
I left and headed back home today not only kind of tired, but also feeling excited for both of them starting their next new adventures. Wishing them both good luck and fun times!
