The weather is still really crappy, I know – your’e surprised right? Anyway, there’s not that much to do in the fields because they are still so wet. Daryl went out today to just check them out, and he said that it’s so wet that you just sink in when your’e walking in the fields. The corn is really starting to show stress (along with the farmers!) and we are sure hoping that the weather forecast is correct for this coming week. It’s supposed to be in the high 70’s and almost 80 all week with only one day with a high chance of rain. Man, I sure hope they’re right about the drier weather.
So what have we been doing ? Well, we did actually spend all afternoon on Saturday mowing the lawn where we could. The ditches are so out of control with all the water standing in them, but we did get the rest of the yard finished. Daryl mowed part of the ditches where he could and he said he saw 3 snakes again. YIKES ! I said, that’s why I call it the snake ditch. Totally gross! Our gas weed eater is not working very good, and I’m going to see this coming week if there is someone who can fix it. We do have an electric one that we can use, but if you live on a farm – some of the spots that you want to clean up have some pretty tough weeds! The weed eater does start pretty good, but then it only stays running if you hold it a certain way and … Well, let’s just say that it’s not the most user friendly machine that I’ve used in awhile. And since we’re having a family reunion on the farm at the end of this month, we’ll need to start thinking about getting the yard all cleaned up. Now that I’m thinking of the family reunion, I’m wondering if one of the ‘fun’ things that we can plan would be to pick rock? Yea, it probably wouldn’t go over so well would it.
As for the farm animals, one of the things that I’ve noticed lately with our chickens is that they’ve been walking around in kind of a chicken mob. Now normally they all just scatter by themselves, but just this past week or so, they’ve been all hanging out together and I’m not sure why. Also check out the peacock in the following picture. I’m thinking that he’s glad that Daryl got his tractor fixed so it’s a high place to watch everyone, but I don’t think Daryl would be too happy about that.
And talking about high places – I was outside early yesterday morning and this old Tom Cat caught my eye. He was just hanging out up in the hay loft just watching what’s going on in the yard I guess. It looks like a pretty good spot to me and too bad Sam the peacock doesn’t sit up there instead of the tractor.
And for our new little kitty, Pepper. Well, he’s been spending the afternoons with our dog taking naps.
Aww, the kitty is so cute sleeping with Reno!!
Don’t let her fool you! This little kitty can also be kind of naughty
