This morning started out with a rush in the house. Kyle and Mariel were working on finishing packing, and then trying to get on the road by 7 am. They were able to drive out of our driveway at exactly 7:00 and I’m not sure how they got everything done. Because these kids were literally driving across the country, I wanted to make sure they had something to eat and drink. I truly blame this characteristic on my mother because she always was feeding us or sending food home with us. I packed a cooler for the kids, and then laughed when Mariel said that she’s never had so much food in the car at once, other than when she’s coming home from the grocery store. OK, maybe I did pack too much. But it’s so silly for them to stop and buy some water or a sandwich when I can pack it for them. If I packed too much and if they don’t use it, they can just leave it at the home that they’ll be staying at. They are heading to a friend in Ohio, and after talking to Kyle tonight they didn’t have any troubles so far and was almost there. They took the cat (thank goodness!) and after we got talking about his cat, I don’t know of any other one that has had the travels that it’s had so far and it’s still really only a kitten. It’s in Ohio for a couple of days, and then off to the east coast. They plan on spending the 4th there, and then Kyle will drop off Mariel in New Jersey and head to Canada – with the cat of course. Sounds like fun and I hope all their travels go well.
Then this afternoon we packed the car with William’s and his friend from school, Robin’s luggage and headed to a music camp before they fly to Europe. This camp is to learn all the songs that they’ll be singing, but singing them in a group. When we were driving to Grinnell Iowa, where this camp is being held, we noticed that the weather was getting much worse as we were getting closer. But we didn’t really know how bad it was going to get until we just got into town. It started to rain and we parked the car in the parking lot right across from where they had to check in. But then it really started to rain, so we decided to wait until the rain let up. All of a sudden the wind picked up, and I’m saying that it got windy! The car started to move back and forth with the wind, and we heard that it was 80 mile an hour straight winds. Now, this still wasn’t so bad until it started to hail. We knew that we didn’t want to wreck the car with hail damage, so we left the parking lot and was trying to find a much better spot to try to not get dents in the car. It was so windy and raining so hard that we did all we could to see to get across the street and hug the college building. It was a pretty good spot and after everything calmed down, we left this spot and went to get the kids checked in. Wouldn’t you know it, it started to hail and rain again, but now we could see a lot better and found the most perfect spot. I’m not sure it was really a car parking spot – but for today… it was. After a good supper uptown, we dropped the kids off at the dorms and we headed back to Lawler. When we were leaving town we could see that there was a lot of branches and a couple of trees that were down in peoples yards. OK, maybe it was kind of windy.
So tonight the house is quiet with no kids around, and the only thing that is making noise is the washing machine. I think it’s a weird habit of mine, but when the house is quiet.. too quiet… I like to do a load of laundry. I like the sound of it and makes everything seem OK. Yup, I said it was weird didn’t I?
