It was a big day today because it was Commencement day for William at our High School. It went well, but I was worried there for awhile. When I would think about the day during the week, I would get really sad. You know when you have to keep telling yourself that it’ll be OK? Well, that’s what I was doing today and I wasn’t convincing myself very well either! I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t get tears in my eyes, but the ceremony went so fast. I think I was concentrating on not having this crying episode, that the time just flew by. I think I would like a ‘do over’. Come to think of it, not only the day as a do over, but maybe the past couple of years! I can remember like it was just yesterday car pooling for William and his classmates for preschool classes, and now his friends are all talking about college and one of his friends will be joining the Marine Corp. It’s a shame that it has to go by like a blink of an eye isn’t it? But all the kids did such a great job and how proud we all should be of all of them. Now to the next chapter of our lives. I hope I’m ready.
Before we went to Commencement, we went to early church and then lit our big burn pile. There was little or no wind today, and since we didn’t really want to burn our neighbors field, it looked like a good day to get rid of this pile. We’ve been stocking it since last year and today she was going to go. Daryl lit it, and once it was starting to burn it got so hot, I was so surprised. Most of the wood came from the buildings or the Farrowing house, so it was good old hand sawed wood. It didn’t take too long to burn, but since I’m so scared of fires, I watched it with my 5 gallon pails of water by my side, to make sure that it didn’t get out of hand.
Daryl and William also worked on moving the rest of the black dirt and scraping the yard. We had some leftover gravel from the cement work that we were able to use it in our yard. And now just some bushes and some mulch and that project can be done!
I also got the rockers painted for our front porch. They were looking kind of tough, so check this off the list!
Now this week I’m going to focus on the food for the party and decorating the Roadhouse. Since the party is next weekend, I think we’re sitting in pretty good shape. Well, that’s what I’m thinking tonight. Ask me in a couple of days and my opinion just might change!
Oh my gosh Bonnie..this is a beautiful picture! You all look wonderful!!
Thanks, but I’m not sure on the wonderful part! But even though the Commencement was kind of bittersweet, I still enjoyed the day. I’m not saying that I like the whole idea that we’re empty nesters, but it was nice.
