Change of weather

I ‘thought’ I had today all planned. I was going to mow lawn, but after I saw what the weather was going to be like – there was no mowing any grass today. The reason that I thought that I was planning on doing this today was because when Daryl and I went on a short bicycle ride on Sunday night, there was a house that we rode by had their air conditioning running. So who would have thought the weather changed this fast? I turned the furnace down about two weeks ago to around 60 degrees. Now this does sound a little cold, but when the temperature was at least 70 degrees, and sometimes 80 degrees, there really wasn’t any need for additional heat was there? I found out fast today that I probably needed to increase the thermostat because when the house was getting pretty cold, I looked and it was in the low 60’s in the house, and I mean LOW 60’s. So back on goes the heat and it looks like we might just get the spring that we missed earlier this year.

Tonight all is quiet on the Kuehner farm, and I’m hoping that it stays that way. What happened last night was that I checked the cows before I went to bed and both No Ears and Stormy were outside, so I locked the dogs in the barn and left the one door open if the cows wanted to come in. OK, so I really didn’t lock the dogs inside, but they didn’t figure it out the night before, and I was hoping they wouldn’t figure it out last night. Well, I was wrong. We were just settled in bed when they were running through the yard just barking and having such a fit. We figured that they knew that they were supposed to be locked up and where was that white calf that they were seeing for sometime now? So Daryl got dressed and back outside he went to put the cow back into the barn so the dogs wouldn’t get so worked up. He said that when he went to pick up Stormy to carry him in the barn and No Ears would hopefully follow him – Stormy didn’t want to go. He caught Daryl off guard, and pushed him down in the cow yard. And by the sound of it, he was pretty dirty when he came into the house.  Daryl was talking about it tonight, about how strong that calf is, and I asked Daryl if he wanted to see my legs. He wasn’t sure where I was going with this until I said how I was trying to hold Stormy when he was first born to teach him to drink, and I didn’t think that much about it at the time. But now the inside of my thighs are black and blue from trying to hold him in one spot. It really doesn’t matter to me because they don’t hurt, but I sure am glad that I didn’t have to go somewhere that it would be showing. It’s probably not the best look I’ve ever had going for me, and it’s also kind of hard to explain to someone who never had to wrestle a calf for an afternoon. Especially such a Stubborn Calf!
