Yesterday we wanted to keep the work going on in the Roadhouse, so while Daryl put on a second coat of grey on the walls, I painted white on the trim. Both look really good and then we hurried and got dressed for the New Years Eve festivities. After church we came home and was still trying to figure out where to eat supper. I guess we should have thought of this earlier in the week to make sure we had a spot somewhere. Well after we looked through the papers, we found a steak house in Decorah and wanted to try our luck to see if we could get in. Good luck was on our side and there was a spot for us and off we went. We ate wayyy too much, but it was so good! We had some time to kill before a dance that we were going to, so we went to check out the Pub at a local hotel downtown. We have a gift certificate to stay at the hotel and wanted to go inside to see how it looks. We ordered a couple of drinks and sat by the fireplace on a big over sized couch. Yea, I’m really looking forward to go back and spending the night there. I think what we’ll do is to go back in the spring and take our bicycles. The town is in the process of finishing their bike trails and even though it’s not completely done – there’s 17 miles that is done and we heard that it’s nice. We spent New Years Eve at a dance that we know some of the band members that were performing. It was a fun time! It’s hard to believe that the year 2011 is over already and we’re off and running with 2012!
Today some of our friends had a New Years Day party and I can not believe how much food there was there! They have a beautiful home in the country and all the rooms were filled with good friends and good conversations. The original plan when we came home from the party was to put the wood trim back up in the Roadhouse – but I think that instead of doing it tonight, we’ll do it tomorrow. Now that we’re home and it’s so windy and cold outside, I’m sure that it can wait for one more day.
You can tell that school will be starting back up soon after the Christmas break. The reason for saying that is because William has his trombone out and practicing as I’m writing this. There is something to say about hearing your kids practicing their musical instrument in your house. Even though they don’t practice as much as I’m sure they are supposed to, I sure like it when they do. There used to be a show that was on and it was about ‘if these walls could talk’ and I sometimes wonder what our house would say. I think our house would talk about friends and family sitting around the kitchen table, and it would also be about memories of when the boys would watch cartoons and be laughing so loud that they could be heard in the other rooms. It would have to say that we had just about every pet that you could imagine at one time or another inside the house – from rabbits to chinchillas to cockatiels to turtles and cats.. just to name a few of them, and finally it would have to talk about hearing trumpets and trombones practicing for upcoming music events. Nice.
