Soapy Sunday

We spent the day catching up around the house and farm and since it is Sunday can you guess what I did?  Well I made a batch of soap! I think I might call this soap ‘Morning Sunrise’.

Now for the last couple of weeks I thought making soap might be a really dumb idea. I mean just how many people would actually want soap? And when in the world am I going to make it if they do want it? But after dinner today I started to watch a couple of videos on the internet and once again I got hooked.

So today’s soap smells awesome! The only problem that I had was that I forgot to put in the yellow color that I had mixed up before hand into the soap. Pretty dumb! Now our trash has a nice yellow tint 🙂 But I’m anxious to see how the soap is when it’s ready. The reason that I’m saying this is because the oils used was Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Shea Butter, and Rice Bran Oil. This is the first recipe with Rice Bran Oil that I’ve made and I guess we’ll just see what happens. Calendula Petals were added to the Orange Essential Oil side and the fragrance of Yuzu is on the other side with the Fizzy Lemonade color (which I forgot!). I also used a cereal box to separate the two colors when I was pouring them into the mold. Pretty smart huh!  So I got rid of the chili smell from dinner today that was hanging out in our kitchen and now it smells pretty darn good.DSCN8205

While I was messing around on the web today I also came across a trick that I tried on the finished soap that I had hanging around.  What I did was to steam the soap to get rid of any soap ash and well honestly to make them look pretty and shiny.  So I spent quite a bit of time shining up my soap. Man even that sounds pretty dumb to me!

Oh well, check out the soap supply that I have so far. The next couple of batches that I make I would like to try to make some more swirled soap along with putting in some pieces of the extra soap that I have into new soap as a design. Sounds like a lot of work for a hobby that I’m not sure that I should keep doing ! DSCN8206
