    Hate it when I know what it is but don’t know what it’s called. Anyhow it’s the thing that hooks to the horses when you hook them up to a wagon.

    Burce is right. It is a the center ring of a “single tree” the ring is what attaches to the double tree. This design was used most often on horse drawn wagons. The ends will have the hooks the the harness is fastened to.
