    well, around my grandparent’s place it would have been used to weigh tomatoes when grandpa sold them to customers. he had a huge garden and frequently people in the area would come to him to see if he would sell them some tomatoes, or peppers, or whatever else was growing.

    I scale used in Hardware stores to weigh out nails grain.

    IT COULD HAVE BEEN USED TO WEIGH SALT OR THINGS LIKE THAT TO ADD TO CATTLE OR HOG FEED WHEN GRINDING..
