Daryl finished with the crops

Last night around 11 pm, Daryl finished with putting in the crops. Thank goodness! Anyone married to a farmer knows that this is one of the most stressful times in the year. The other stressful time is when it’s ready to take the crops out. You do a lot of looking very serious and nodding your head when they are talking about the rain that might come in 4 or 5 days (sometimes even next week !) and that they’ll have no idea on how to get everything done. And because Daryl works full time in town, at a business from 10 to 14 hours a day he really does get tired. Then he goes out into the field for the night. Glad the crops are in. NOW we hope for rain to get them started.

As for me, I started painting yesterday. Had some minor start up issues like who took the ladder? and where is the drill? (you need a drill to put the hook on to stir the paint) I couldn’t find either one of them so I got frustrated and stirred it by hand. It looked really  bad in the pail so I’m hoping that I stirred it up enough. I guess I’ll find out. But when I was scraping the wood I had the weirdest thought. If you ever had to scrap a building you know that this is the process to remove all the paint that is coming off. So when I’m scraping the inside crevices and working to get out all the built up gunk I started to think about how my life could have been so different. You know when you’re in high school and had to make a decision about what you wanted to do when you grew up? Well for awhile I thought about being a dental hygienist. Scraping the gunk out reminded me when they have they clean your teeth. I wonder how my life would have been different. I think that when you’re 18 years old and making those choices that you have no idea how they are actually forming your future. As for me – I wouldn’t change a thing about the roads that I’ve been down. And if you are wondering why I didn’t go to school to be a Dental Hygienist, it was because I was scared to death to be around dentists!
